Chamber Music Workshop 2012

Community Youth Orchestra of Southern California (CYOSC) is proud to host our second annual Chamber Music Workshop, a week-long intensive musical retreat in Big Bear Lake, California for junior high and high school age string students focusing on String Quartets. This year's workshop takes place June 24-30.

Six violinists, three violists, and three cellists will be selected through a competitive audition process to participate in daily rehearsals, coachings, performance classes, masterclasses, and a formal concert presentation under the guidance of exceptional instructors, as well as enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including a vist to the thrilling Alpine Slide at Six Flags.

Auditions for the CMW2012 are open first to full-time members of CYOSC, and to students outside the program if there are spaces remaning. Participants are selected solely on the merit of their playing, and a limited amount of financial assistance is available. Print and Online applications will be available in mid-February.

Program Details

The program begins with the arrival of all students at our cabin in Big Bear Lake, California the evening of Sunday, June 24, 2012, and concludes with a formal concert  in Irvine, California the evening of Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at 7:00pm

Throughout the week, students meet for 5+ hours of rehearsal each day with their assigned string quartet. Coaching sessions with faculty are alternated with individaul practice time, and a communal performance class each day gives each ensemble a supportive environment to develop their playing skills in front of an audience.

In addition to making music, we also incorporate some fun local outings, including activities at Big Bear Lake, hiking in the National Forest, and a visit to the Alpine Slide at Six Flags, one of the most enjoyable activities on the moutain.
